As the prophecy foretold, TikTok has now become one of the biggest social media platforms, open to everyone who is ready to expand their creativity and share it with the world. After the events of 2020, the consequences of which are as evident and obvious as the sky is blue, it was not a bad year for TikTok at all.
In fact, considering that humanity was in a lockdown, which, quite naturally, severely limited the physical movement and deprived us of all the outdoor activities, visiting places, and interacting with people freely, there is another side that the year brought out of us. That is, unable to withstand the boredom, the sloth, and the inactivity, it was the time for the creative energy to awaken from its slumber.
And! TikTok served as the mediator. It was the platform that allowed people to experiment, express themselves, and just have fun when the world seemed to be collapsing. In this way, many creators, who were already on TikTok, benefited from these circumstances and grew their audience. Let’s suppose, however, that you are just getting started.
It is the year 2021. The app is booming, and you are ready to put yourself out there. How do you get started? How do you build your TikTok account? How do you grow your audience? Well, let’s take a look at the essentials.
#1-Identify your target audience
So, you have decided on the content you want to share with your audience…But who is your audience? Who do you think would enjoy your content the most? Once you have this settled, you can proceed. This will also give you an idea of when to post. If your followers are from the UK, you should research the time when people from the UK are most active on the platform of your choice, namely, TikTok.
#2-Set up a presentable account
The first impression is important. There is a lot you can communicate through your profile description and your profile picture. It should reflect your authenticity and your character. Once it’s done, you can proceed with creating your content. Your audience will find its way to you.
#3-Keep Up with Trends
Social Media platforms are all about trends. The trendsetters are usually the popular creators with a large following, who know how to get the ball rolling. So, it is best if you follow a bunch of famous TikTokers who know what’s up and keep up with the trends, use trendy songs and hashtags. You could also participate in different challenges and give them your own twist!
#4-Be Consistent
Consistency is key. Yes, it is possible to go viral when you just on the bandwagon and follow the trends, but it will take you so far. It doesn’t make you truly relevant. While trends can help you gain a significant amount of followers, it is by far not your primary goal. You want to establish a genuine connection with the people who keep an eye on what you do. All that you do, in its turn, shall be something valuable – yup, even something as simple (seemingly!) as making people laugh. However, to establish good relationships with your people, you need to BE there for them.
#5-Share your content on other platforms
Instagram (Reels!) could be a platform where you can turn for reaching your audience. You could link your social media accounts to your TikTok. This way, you expand your channels of communication and leverage your exposure.
#6-Livestream!
Last but not least…you should go live from time to time! One thing is being in front of the camera and doing something you have planned beforehand, another thing is being in front of the camera with no script at all. It is just you and your audience having a friendly chat, joking around, answering questions, and just allowing them to be part of your day as if they actually know you.
